Almacén Gallery is happy to invite you to our new solo exhibition Three Across by Roni Packer. In Packer’s work, the paint and the color are never equal, but, “are always in negotiations”. Lacking figuration, the color becomes the main actor, operating as sculptural raw material. Curated by Orit Bulgaru, the show will be open to the public starting May 14th

In Flux: Chicago Artists and Immigration

First presented by 6018 North in spring 2019, under the title 'Living Architecture,' In Flux is a large-scale, multidisciplinary exhibition that highlights the influence and impact of immigrant artists on Chicago. The exhibition responds to the current political climate to highlight how Chicago was built with immigrant labor, particularly in the arts, and is continuously shaped today by exemplary immigrant artists.

Barely Fair

LVL3 is proud to be participating in the first year of BARELY FAIR with works by Chicago-based artists Roni Packer, Susan Pasowicz, and Soo Shin. BARELY FAIR is a miniature art fair hosted by Julius Caesar Gallery. The fair presents a tiny peek inside the programming of twenty-four local and international contemporary art galleries, project spaces, and curatorial projects during “Art Week” in Chicago. Included spaces will exhibit works in 1:12 scale booths built to mimic the design of a standard fair.

LVL3 is proud to present Question and Answer a two-person exhibition featuring Lyndon Barrois Jr. and Roni Packer. Barrois Jr. prompts conversation through didactic compositions of printer matter and peripheral materials. Packer searches for a generative material presence by making connections with form and color. If Barrois Jr. creates relationships through differences, Packer’s work may manifest as the similarities. Hyde Park Art Center is proud to announce the return of Ground Floor, the fifth iteration of the biennial exhibition that features artwork by some of Chicago’s most promising emergent talent. Nominated by members of the arts community and selected by the Art Center’s Exhibitions Committee, the selected artists are 2017 and 2018 graduates from Chicago’s top-ranked Master of Fine Art programs.

The New Printmaker Collection

Spudnik Press Cooperative and the Chicago Artists Coalition are thrilled to announce the second year of their project “The New Printmakers Collection: A Collaboration between Spudnik Prints Cooperative and the Chicago Artists Coalition.” The program is designed to offer collectors a portfolio of prints by three artists on the rise. The artists invited to participate are new to printmaking, and all are former residents of CAC’s BOLT or HATCH programs. This year’s artists include Benjamin Larose (BOLT 2017-18), Caroline Liu (HATCH 2017-18), and Roni Packer (BOLT 2017-18).

Living Architecture: Labor Day Opening Celebration

Living Architecture is a large-scale, multidisciplinary exhibition that responds to the current political climate and highlights how Chicago was built with immigrant labor. Co-curated by Teresa Silva and Tricia Van Eck with Nathan Smith the show includes over 50 amazing Chicago artists and will be up until December 2018 at the house on 6018 North Kenmore, a Chicago landmark that today houses the 6018 North gallery.
Reinterpreting Religion: Performance and Artist Talk

Chicago-based artists of Reinterpreting Religion—Yvette Mayorga, Roni Packer, and Rhonda Wheatley—will participate in a discussion about their artistic practices and will read excerpts from the newly released exhibition catalog that highlight their perspectives on contemporary religion. This discussion will be moderated by curator, Lauren Leving.

Reinterpreting Religion is a group exhibition featuring seven artists from the U.S., the U.K., and Italy including: Giulia Bianchi (Milan, IT), Alexandria Eregbu (Chicago), Sarah Maple (Sussex, UK), Yvette Mayorga (Chicago), Roni Packer (Chicago), Lakshmi Ramgopal (Chicago), and Kristine Stolakis (San Francisco). These artists employ photography, installation, painting, sculpture, and video to examine the nuances of spirituality. Their bodies of work highlight the ways feminism, religion, and perspectives shaped by life experiences coalesce to cultivate individualized systems of belief that move away from stringent guidelines outlined by the conservative structures of worship. Raising questions of ownership in regards to religious practices, the artists in Reinterpreting Religion use their artwork to reclaim power against unjust systems, not just for themselves but also for the subjects depicted in their work and for their audiences.

Inquiry 01 features new projects by nine accomplished artists — Nelly Agassi, Leslie Baum, Iris Bernblum, Dianna Frid, Matthew Girson, Jesse Malmed, Geof Oppenheimer, Roni Packer, and Rana Siegel — all participants in Spertus Institute’s first Chicago Jewish Artists Fellowship. On view with their work will be with objects from the Spertus collection selected by the artists.
The Fellowship program is co-directed by Spertus Institute’s Curator of Collections and Exhibitions Ionit Behar and curator, writer, and educator Ruslana Lichtzier.
